Thrips (order Thysanoptera) are minute (mostly 1 mm long or less), slender insects with fringed wings and unique asymmetrical mouthparts. Thrips feed  on plants by puncturing and sucking up the contents, few are predators. Thrips damage plants by sucking their juices and scraping at fruits, flowers and leaves. Signs of thrips infestation include Distortion of young leaves and fruit. Spotting on flowers. Yellow speckled areas on leaves. The silvered appearance of older leaves. Black spots of thrips excrement on leaves. Small insects in the flowers or on the undersides of young leaves in your crop. Plants are stunted with damaged flowers and fruit.

Spider mites look like tiny little dots usually clustered around the stem of the plant on the underside of the leaf. In the early stages of infestation, there is spotting on the top of the leaves and yellowing around the edges. There may be a spider web type webbing on the plant. In severe infestation, there may be complete yellowing of leaves and the plant stops growing.
